Sustainability

Our Eco Policy

Balloons can get a bad wrap sometimes so some reassurances for you from a sustainability perspective;

We recycle foil balloons using a specialist recycling plant called Terracycle, as far as we know we are the only balloon company in London who do this.

Our latex balloons are made from biodegradable latex and are the highest quality latex sourced from forests that are members of the rainforest alliance

Our satin ribbon is made from recycled plastic bottles

All our vans are ULEX compliant and we meticulously plan the most efficient routes to your selected venue.

And finally when you see one of our large displays like an Epic Balloon Arch most of what you see is air - when it is popped down it wouldn't even fill a reusable Tesco bag!

So reassuringly when you choose Bubblegum, you're not just getting amazing decor — you're supporting eco-friendly principles.

Our reusable hire products are growing so keep an eye on sustainable options here to make your event or occasion look good.

Latex

Bubblegum Balloons use latex balloons made from Biodegradable Latex which is sourced from leading manufacturers who purchase latex from sustainable Rain Forest Alliance Certified and Forest Stewardship Council Plantations.

This contributes to building healthy forests, thriving communities and fights climate change. Latex is harvested from trees in a similar way to maple syrup, the trees product latex for over 30 years.

Foil Balloons

Bubblegum Balloons is thrilled to be the only (as far as we know) Events Balloon Company in London to offer an innovative recycling solution for foil balloons. We have a Zero Waste Box TM located at our warehouse where all our balloons are inflated, once this box is full we then send it to TerraCycle® for recycling and we get a new box.

So instead of being landfilled or incinerated, the contents of the box will be sorted and turned into raw materials that can be reused - genius! So all you need to do is return the foil balloons to us at the end of your event or we can de-rig and collect the foil balloons for you.

Bubble Balloons

Our Bubble Balloons are made from a proprietary mix of multi-layered plastic film that is designed to be stretchy. This allows them to expand to a larger size that other similar products meaning they provide a visual impact with no extra plastic!

We fill our bubbles with paper confetti, the tissue paper that makes up our confetti and tassels is made from 100% recycled pulp, 100% acid free and is biodegradable once finished with.

Helium for Balloons

Balloon Grade Helium specification; → 95% purity minimum → 1% oxygen → 20ppm moisture

Helium is non-flammable, non-explosive and non-toxic and is completely safe to use both indoors and outdoors. Helium gas should not be inhaled.

Helium for balloons is not the same as pure helium used for medical purposes. Helium suppliers prioritise supplies of pure, liquid helium for critical medical uses e.g. MRI scanners in hospitals, ensuring that they can remain fully operational.

Helium for balloons is impure and gaseous and recovered as a by-product of supplying liquid helium for the MRI market – a market which makes up about half of the helium business in the UK. Impure, gaseous helium cannot be used directly in medical MRI scanners or in other applications that use super-conducting magnets. Impure helium can also be recovered by the customer and reprocessed for use in the balloon market. BOC is our helium supplier and they actively recover and reprocess helium wherever possible to ensure that every opportunity is taken to recycle and reuse this important resource.

Satin Ribbon

The Satin Ribbon we use uses woven yarns that are made from 100% recycled Rpet or put simply recycled plastic bottles. The bottles are collected from recycling points across Europe which is mechanically ground into flakes and then melted, processed and spun into polyester filaments which are then combined together to create 100% recycled yarn.

In addition to the sustainable ribbon the white plastic reels that the ribbon comes on not only look good but are made from recycled plastic and are themselves recyclable. For the finishing touch the cellophane that protects the ribbon on each reel is compostable.

Balloon Releases

Bubblegum Balloons do not condone or knowingly provide balloons for balloon releases. Releases are harmful to the environment and shouldn't be conducted under any circumstances. When you are finished enjoying your balloons please pin it and bin it, or if it is a foil balloon return it to us for recycling! Balloons should not be released outdoors.
